Recently, news came out that the electronics retailer Best Buy, decided to reconsider their partnership with a company called Vivint. The partnership allowed Vivint employees to work inside Best Buy stores, to sell Best Buy customers products capable of reducing their home’s energy usage. The potential decision by Best Buy is apparently just business, but it is a welcome piece of news because Vivint seemingly has a problem with African Americans.

Vivint isn’t alone when it comes to struggling with race. There has always been bigotry in this country. In 2018, thanks to the leaders of the civil r...

Senate Republicans hope to get Brett Kavanaugh, President Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court, confirmed before October 1, when they will reconvene.  Senate Democrats hope to hold on to any vote until after the November election when Democrats have the possibility of taking a majority in the Senate and giving Republicans a dose of their own medicine.  Bravo to Senate Democrats who have not yet scheduled meetings with Kavanaugh.  Dems are treating him slightly better than Republicans treated Justice Merrick Garland, President Obama’s choice for the Supreme Court.  Unfortunately, with a Republ...

The crusading journalist, Ida B. Wells was born on July 16, 1862.   Although she made her mark as a journalist, she was also a social worker, advocate, feminist, and organization leader.  She too often gets short shrift in history, mainly because she did not go along to get along with the men of her era, crossing swords with the likes of Dr. WEB DuBois and Booker T. Washington.  The same fierceness that pushed her to organize against lynching was the fierceness that propelled her to confront injustice within African American organizations and in women's organizations.  Indeed, the historic 191...

Roland has had it with the traditional med...

I've never met Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year old New York activist, but I am surely looking forward to it.  This giant-slayer of an organizer (she worked for Senator Bernie Sanders during the 2016 campaign) was out-spent, but certainly not out-worked, by her opponent, Rep. Joseph Crowley (D-NY).  Crowley had served in Congress for ten terms and was the fourth-highest ranking Democrat in Congress, one who had openly coveted Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi's position as Minority Leader in Congress.  He spent $1.5 million in his first primary race since 2004, while Ocasio-Cortez spent just a fra...
