KWANZAA – AN ANTIDOTE TO INSANITY

The sickening sight of smug sycophantic Republicans celebrating the passage of their tax bill on the White House lawn was the Scrooge-like move to drop a lump of coal into the stockings of the 13 million Americans likely to lose health insurance coverage thanks to the move. Of course, corporations are so ecstatic that some – AT&T and Comcast among them – are offering employee bonuses because they will benefit so much from the tax plan. As disgusted as I am, there is, to quote the Bible, “balm in Gilead”, or an opportunity to heal the many wounds inflicted by 45 and his callow and kleptomaniacal administration. Yes, kleptomaniacal, stooping so low as to propose regulations that will give re

TIME TO HOOK BLACK WOMEN UP

Senator Elect Doug Jones (D-AL) did not have to win his battle against accused sexual molester and Republican candidate Roy Moore in the epic battle in Alabama on December 12. He won because young people, some white women (most of them voted for Moore), and an amazing effort from Alabama’s African Americans put him over the top. Some white folks crossed party lines for the first time, voting for Jones because Moore repulsed them. Some analysts have especially noted that white moms were more likely than other white women to vote for Jones. But Black folks showed up and showed out – a larger percentage of African American voters participated in this election than in the 2012 election of Pr

Too bad that impetus did not float up to the top, when an avowed grabber of women’s genitals was elected to lead this country. Too bad, too, that the many members of Congress who have paid accusers out of a taxpayer-funded slush fund have not been unmasked. We know some of the names. Texas Congressman Blake Farenthold (R) arranged to have his former communications director paid $84,000 (a fraction of the $27,000 Conyers is said to have paid). He has not resigned, nor have Congressional Republicans, including leader Paul

THE TRUMP TRICK BAG – STACKING THE COURTS

Two people reported to work at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau on November 27, both expecting to lead the bureau. Leandra English, who had been chief of staff to former Director Richard Cordray (he resigned before Thanksgiving to return to Ohio to run for governor), was appointed to the director position by her old boss. Simultaneously, 45 appointed Mick Mulvaney, head of the Office of Management and Budget, to hold the job. Reportedly, Mulvaney arrived at the office bright and early Monday morning, carrying a bag of donuts. Both Mulvaney and English sent memos to the entire staff asserting their leadership. Mulvaney rolled his sleeves up and got to work at an agency he had pre
